How to Find Profitable Niche for Your Website

On the last article, we have talked about some basic steps how to build profitable website. When I say profitable, I refer to “you can make some money from the website”. To anyone who come to this website for the first time, as you can see at the header, this website is talking about building profitable website where you can earn money from it.

If the idea of make money from your website or blog is offending you, I’m afraid we are not on the same boat. However, if you are someone who are looking for an answer how to make money from your website, then you come at the right place at the right time.

From the last article, I touched three basic tips to help you building a website that will earn you money, they’re:

  • Your website should provide what people looking for
  • Your website should rank high on the search engine for its targeted keyword
  • You should have an option or two to monetize it

At the last article, I asked you to decide what topic you want to talk about on your website. Finding the right topic, or some people call it “niche”, is a very crucial step on your effort on building your profitable website. Choosing the wrong niche can result no traffic and no money.

I know several of you don’t know how to find your niche ideas, and where to find it. Don’t worry. In this article, we will go to several websites where we can start our idea brainstorming to collect the right niche for your website.

Google Trends http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends
From this page you can see Google provides 100 topics that are currently hot. This page and topic result is always updated periodically. I usually use this page for gathering ideas only. I will make a note on several hot topics that are ‘possible’ to develop.

Yahoo Buzz http://buzz.yahoo.com/
Just like the Google hot trends, I use this page for ideas generating purpose where I will take a note for some ideas that can be considered as ‘possible’ to develop.

Ebay Pulse http://pulse.ebay.com/
Ebay provides almost anything you can think of since this is the place for the sellers and buyers to meet. From this website you can generate more specific topics, can be based on the ideas you’ve gathered from the websites above.

Amazon
Just like Ebay, Amazon provides almost any products you can think of. This is a very good place to find profitable niches around certain products.

Amazon Market Place http://www.clickbank.com/marketplace.htm
Clickbank is an affiliate network site where you can find thousands of digital products you can promote. Most of their products are information product, a very good place to start your topic generating around certain topics, and at the same time you can prepare your monetizing method for your website.

You can also use other affiliate network websites to find profitable niches. You can browse the marketplace on certain affiliate websites like commission junction, linkshare, shareasale to start brainstorming your ideas. Probably you have to join them first before you can start browse their entire marketplace.

From those websites above, you can collect many topic ideas for your website. I suggest you to gather as many topics as possible. Put it on a note, table, or whatever you like. You will use it as your reference for our next step, keyword research. I will talk about this on the next article.

Actually you can also find your niche ideas from anything you see on your real life. Look at your desk, look at your room. When watching television look at what they advertise. When you are driving look at those big billboard. They advertise over there for a reason. People buy the products, whatever it is. It means, there is a demand for it.
